Sustainable Development Goals and Measurement Indicators

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 targets were adopted at the 70th UN General Assembly on 25 September 2015. The SDGs are global in scope and universal in application, with an implementation timeline extending until 2030. They create commitments for all countries, both developed and developing, taking into account different national realities, levels of development, national policy objectives and priorities. The 2030 Agenda promotes the integration of all three dimensions of sustainable development – social, environmental and economic – into all policies, while advocating the interconnection and coherence of SDG-related policies and legislative frameworks.

Greece recognizes the important contribution of SDGs in promoting, inter alia, social well-being, poverty eradication and fair and inclusive development. In this context, it is of particular significance for Greece to mobilise and step-up its efforts in order to set its priorities with regard to the 2030 Agenda and effectively implement the SDGs by appropriately adapting them to national priorities and needs.

Indicators for Measuring the Sustainable Development Goals

The indicators measuring the progress towards the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals – which are updated and adjusted accordingly on the basis of the political priorities of the government and the availability of statistical data and information – are selected from the UN global SDGs indicator framework comprising 231 indicators and the EU SDG indicator set consisting of 100 indicators.
